Benefit of Pilates

Posted on 15 February 2007 | No responses

One of the main benefits of Pilates is it refreshes your physical and mental well-being. Pilates is a series of controlled movements that unite the body and mind and creates a direct connection to the muscles.

The benefit of Pilates is it helps condition your body without punishing it. It is designed to stretch and strengthen muscle without adding bulk.

The Pilates abdominal exercises require mental concentration along with coordinated breathing beginning in the body’s core (abdomen, back and buttocks) to build a balanced strength and agility in your body.

Joseph Pilates, a legendary physical trainer, developed this exercise system in the 1920′s. Pilates routines can benefit men and women of any age no matter what physical condition you are in.

It was designed for people who recognize the importance of providing a firm support system for the spine. Pilates movement places its focus on the body’s core. It works the deep muscles in the body creating a strong center.

Pilates is more precise movements rather than a lot of repetitions of an exercise. It adds heightened body awareness and control because the mind engages the body during movement. Controlled breathing accompanies that movement.

One of the exciting aspects of Pilates is that almost anyone can do it. There is no bouncing, jarring or stress to your body and it can be done almost anywhere at anytime.

Some of the Pilate routines take less than 10 minutes and are ideal for people who say they don’t have enough time to exercise. Who can’t squeeze in 10 minutes out of your day to improve your health and well being?

Some of the basic principles of the Pilates philosophy include concentration and control. The emphasis is on the quality of the movement and not the number of repetitions.

Pilates movement also includes centering and breathing which focuses attention to the body’s core and breathing properly to oxygenate the entire body and cleanse it of impurities.

Pilates teaches balance and control of the body and mind, strengthens bone density while improving muscle strength, flexibility and posture. With Pilates you can even train the mind to relax and control stress.

You create the ability to maintain proper posture, increase joint range of motion, acquire a flat lean stomach, improve circulation, have more stamina and better coordination.

The Pilate movements start, stay and end in the core. The benefit of Pilates are both emotional and physical. Pilate routines help you achieve inner awareness and calm along with a sense of mastering the mind and body.

Winsor Pilates Review: Pros And Cons

Posted on 7 February 2007 | No responses

Being a very popular fitness program, Winsor Pilates is not impossible to create another breakthrough in the fitness industry. Winsor Pilates having achieved a great number of unexpected clients, still continue to attract people with its videos and successful Winsor Pilates reviews.

Winsor Pilates reviews, being the focal point of the discussion in this article, mostly contain comments, whether positive or negative, about the unmatched performances of conditioning and shaping the body fit from head to toe that the Winsor Pilates offered. We cannot deny that in a certain explanation, the presence of pros and cons is always evident.

So with that, some of the Winsor Pilates reviews mostly vary from the most positive to the least negative. And some Winsor Pilates reviews have much positive comments than negative. Well, it just somehow shows how great the Winsor Pilates works.

Some of the Winsor Pilates reviews contain information and proofs that the Winsor Pilates really works. In most Winsor Pilates reviews, the adjectives like challenging, great, fun, etc. are the most commonly found support for the claim that Winsor Pilates is the best fitness program the industry ever made. Most of those Winsor Pilates reviews indicate that the Winsor Pilates really tones the body and especially good at working the abs. Winsor Pilates clients claimed that when they tried Winsor Pilates their abs became tighter than ever been before. They also feel toned in the leg area, especially the quads. However, most of the Winsor Pilates reviews claimed that none of the moves really targets the arms. Comment like Winsor Pilates strengthens the abdominal and back muscles of the body is common in most Winsor Pilates reviews. Others also noted that Winsor Pilates is similar to yoga in that paying so much attention to the body kinesics forces the Winsor Pilates takers to let go of stressful thoughts and feelings.

However, those stated claims above are just among the positive comments made by most Winsor Pilates takers, other comments fall to the negative category. Aside from stating positive manners of Winsor Pilates, many Winsor Pilates reviews also noted that the Winsor Pilates is very much expensive and the instruction can seem wordy. It does not really support the claim that by doing the Winsor Pilates tapes alone, you can totally melt away the pounds and the inches. Some of the Winsor Pilates reviews stated that Pilates still need to be incorporated into a well-balanced routine, including plenty of aerobic exercise and a healthy diet.

Whatever the case may be, it is just natural to know that those Winsor Pilates reviews available have positive and negative sides on them and are just modes of expressions.

The History of Pilates

Posted on 30 January 2007 | No responses

In order to understand the basics of Pilates and why it can work for you, you first need to understand where Pilates came from. Pilates was originally formed in Germany by a man of the same name, Joseph Pilates.

Joseph Pilates had many health afflictions as a child. The boy wanted to overcome the hardships he faced. He hoped exercise would not only boost his morale, but also his bodys defense against his illnesses.

The year was 1880 when Joseph Pilates was born. During his youthful years, he tried a number of things to try to strengthen his body. After several failed attempts to create the perfect program for his frail form he came up with the series of movements we now know as Pilates. However, it wasnt until the 1920s that the movements Joseph Pilates created were truly perfected.

One of the things that make Pilates so great is that the movements and exercises you do seek to give you strength and flexibility, but not to build any serious amount of bulk to your frame. Pilates is not about building muscle, it is about working with your body and not against it. You need to be able to take what you have been given and make that work for you before attempting anything else and that is the philosophy that Pilates was founded on.

As you learn more about Pilates you will find that it is designed for each persons body. Pilates will align your bones through a series of movements and this will allow your body to work with less strain thanks to the activity of exercise you are achieving.

Pilates appeals to a number of people. It doesnt matter what type of person you are or what level of training your body is at. Pilates can help you improve your bodys natural functioning as well as help boost confidence and your mental wellness.

The most wonderful thing you will discover about Pilates is that you dont have to suffer through the movements to feel better. You are training your body with intelligent design and therefore you will not need to work twice as hard, as you may have to do with other work out programs.

Pilates was set up to create balance within your body. This will help you to realign your bones and can also help to improve your posture. Another positive feature is the lean muscles that you will form thanks to your workouts.

Pilates is excellent exercise for everyone no matter their shape or size. In fact, many videos and exercise clubs have created classes for people with disabilities, arthritis, general strength or weight loss issues, different strength issues, and even for pregnant or birthing mothers.

Is Pilates, a New Fitness Trend, Right for You?

Posted on 22 January 2007 | No responses

When you talk about joining a gym, the first thing that comes to mind is, “What kind of yoga or Pilates classes do they have there?” Yoga is an ancient form of exercise that focuses on stretching and balancing, in finding peace and in strengthening the body and muscles with bouncing, running, hopping, jumping or other vigorous forms of movements. Pilates is all about movements that help rejuvenate the mind and strengthen the body, while injecting vigor into your everyday life. For people who like aggressive movements, go for cardio activities or classes, like Steps, Dance, Combat or other forms of Les Milles types of programs. For the rest of us, there’s always Pilates. And how do you know whether Pilates is right for you? Here’s the answer…

Pilates is perfect for those who have old sport injuries For those of us who have preciously been physically or emotionally injured in one way or the other, Pilates can help nurse your wounds back into normalcy. Pilates is non-strenuous, therefore, it does not strain your muscles, joints, bones or other parts of your body. In Pilates, the most important thing is that you move slowly and stretch as far as YOU can go. Pilates is also suitable for children and the elderly. Unlike other types of cardiovascular programs, it does not, generally speaking, raise your heart rate to a point that you will faint.

Pilates is good for those who like challenges Pilates, right now, probably sounds like a piece of cake to you. But in actual fact, it is not. It sounds so mild that many people think that it’s a walk in the park. But there’s a lot more to Pilates than meets the eye. Although you’re not pushed beyond your own limit and you don’t need to bounce, hop, skip and run around in a mad frenzy, you’re going to be stretching every single muscle in your body and hold different positions for some time. This can be a challenge for most of us. Exceptions are made for those who are older, very young and the injured. For Pilates fans, we’re in for the challenge. If you take a look at some of the positions in Pilates, you’ll see what I mean.

Pilates is suitable for those who are depressed The fantastic thing about Pilates is that it not only stretches your body and muscles, Pilates is a kind of program that also stretches you mentally. In order to hold positions and balance yourself, you need focus, you need concentration and you need the will to hold it there until the Pilates instructor says you can change position. It gives you a reprieve from whatever problems you’re facing and focus on you. Pilates helps you refocus your life and for the whole 45 min to 1 hour session, your focus is none other than YOU.

Pilates Yoga

Posted on 29 December 2006 | No responses

Though referred to as yoga, the Pilates exercise regime has no connection with it and works on entirely different approaches. The common factor between yoga and Pilates programs is their emphasis on mental focus and breath control during exercise. Some refer to Pilates as yoga with movement, and others as yoga with machines.

George Pilates, a German, was a sickly child who managed to improve his health with dedicated exercise programs. As a nurse during the First World War he was looking after the internees. He developed his system of exercises during this time. In 1926 he and his wife opened an exercise school in New York and never looked back. Now it is the top method of keeping fit. Initially, many dancers flocked to his studio to get a supple, strong and balanced body. Now his system has over 500 centers throughout the United States.

His basic approach to exercise was maintaining correct posture while exercising, with particular reference to the spine. The muscles that support the spine, like the back and stomach muscles, get a good workout. He uses breathing techniques to keep the mind focused and increase efficiency. The movements flow from the spine and posture, and balance predominates.

Initially he used the help of some springs. Now over the years many Pilates machines have been developed. These use springs, pulleys and weights, and over the years have become very complicated.

The Pilates exercise program is sweeping over the United States with so much enthusiasm that there are long waiting lists in most studios. There is an acute shortage of trained instructors.

There are three pieces of equipment that are used with Pilates exercise – Reformer, Cadillac and Wunda chair. Individual studios have come up with their own specific machines also. But it is not always necessary to use equipment. There are programs, though limited in effect, that can be done on a simple mat.

The merger of yoga techniques with Pilates exercise enhances its effect and appeal to the public.

What is Pilates?

Posted on 5 December 2006 | No responses

Happy Birthday Mum :)

Pilates is a system of over 500 controlled exercises that engage the mind and condition the total body by using a popular exercise regimen that uses special stretches and machines. Named after Joseph Pilates, Pilates exercise system has proven itself invaluable not only to the fitness user, but to the professional trainers as well. Pilates, a technique of exercise and physical movement intended to stretch, strengthen, and balance the body.

With regular practice of specific exercises joined with focused breathing patterns. Pilates works several muscle groups simultaneously through smooth, continuous motion, with a particular concentration on strengthening and stabilising the core.
Pilates focuses on the quality of movement rather than quantity, which makes one feel refreshed rather than tired after a session. Pilates takes a balanced approach so that no muscle group is overworked and the body works efficiently.
With the ageing of our people and the increasing trend toward mindful, moderate health practices, Pilates is more likely to find itself with a wait list at the YMCA, and in your local public schools, shaping the fitness ideals of our next generation.

Practiced loyally, Pilates yields many benefits such as:

Increased lung capacity and circulation through deep breathing.
Strength and flexibility, particularly of the abdomen and back muscles, coordination-both muscular and mental, are key components in an effective Pilate’s program.
Posture, balance, and core strength are all heartily increased.
Bone density and joint health improvements as you become more aware of your body. Pilates teaches balance and control of the body.

Pilate’s equipment today is not much different than that of earlier days. Because of the nature of the equipment the inimitably designed pieces truly act as a complement to the challenging mat exercises.

Pilate Moves

The Hundred – This movement strengthens the torso by requiring the back muscles to work in synergy with the abdominal muscles.

Roll Up -This movement strengthens the abdominal muscles.

One-Leg Circle -This movement opens up the hip, increasing flexibility.

One-Leg Stretch -This movement strengthens the abdominal muscles with the opposition effect of keeping the back flat on the floor while changing legs.

Single Straight-Leg Stretch -This movement strengthens the abdominal muscles by the opposition of keeping the back flat on the floor while changing legs.

Key to remember is that you should consult a physician before starting any exercise programme. Always keep water close to you and drink before you get too thirsty.
